Clean Space is a process where a facilitator invites an 'explorer' to locate different spaces within a room or building, or indeed outside, and to find out what they know in those spaces. People know surprisingly different things in different spaces! By creating multiple physical and mental perspectives that inform one another, a network of possibilities can emerge that has never been imagined before, and from this new - and often profound - insights can emerge.
The Clean Space process, which utilises context, space, individuation, moving, spatial relationships, iteration, integration, metaphor and 'clean' language, was designed by David Grove in the early part of this century and later became the subject of the book Marian co-authored with James Lawley: Insights in Space.
The principles that guide a Clean Space facilitator are about keeping yourself out of the process, keeping the explorer's attention on their emerging network, keeping the process flowing and letting go of much of what is generally expected from a facilitator. These principles work together to encourage conditions in which the explorer's creativity can flourish.
During this session, Marian will explain a little of the background to Clean Space and some of the basic principles, directions and questions involved. She will then lead you through a 'mini' Clean Space activity so you can experience the process for yourself. This will be followed by an invitation to share your learnings and to ask any questions you may have
Marian is an experienced coach, and an inspirational trainer and speaker who has a natural ability to model existing structures, find the connections between them and design new ways for people to learn. She was a leading innovator within the Weight Watchers organisation, which included developing the “points” strategy, a local idea that went on to become a global innovation. She is a director of both Clean Learning and Training Attention CIC, world leaders in clean applications for corporate, educational and community development. Marian is the author of ‘Clean Approaches for Coaches’ and co-author, with James Lawley, of ‘Insights in Space’.
